My Purpose as a Mental Health Counselor
My purpose as your counselor/therapist is to walk alongside you and provide guidance as you work through your concerns and difficulties. I view therapy as a journey that you take alongside your counselor. This journey may wind through difficult patches, but always with the goal of increasing your overall wellness and/or resolving your concerns. My goal as a counselor includes listening to you, providing feedback, and giving you tools to utilize outside of our sessions.
I work with individuals ages 12 and up, providing both individual and group therapy. I especially enjoy working with adolescents and young adults, or those who are experiencing life transitions. I provide trauma- informed care. I am fat positive, believing that all bodies deserve respect and compassion, and utilize a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach. I am LGBTQ+ affirming. I work to increase personal awareness of the concerns that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) individuals face, and strive to be anti-racist. I am spiritually affirming, utilizing a client’s belief system to assist in healing, for those who desire for this to be a part of their therapy experience.
My approach to therapy is eclectic, always putting the needs and concerns of the individual first. I am trained to utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities within the context of person-centered therapy sessions where the goal is always to allow the individual client to feel heard and valued. Some of the modalities which I practice are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Psychoeducational interventions. I believe each person comes to therapy with a unique set of experiences and strengths, and the goal of our journey is to explore how to best utilize those strengths to achieve your goals.
My Life Outside the Office
I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction. I also enjoy trying out various cuisines. In addition, I consider myself a lifelong learner and enjoy exploring information about a variety of topics.
